This is my first in-person art workshop at Cheap Joe's since 2019! In this exciting, relaxed, and fun watercolor workshop, each day will begin with a morning demo and afternoon demo for that day's work. Emphasis will be on developing drawing skills, designing a balance between positive and negative spaces for more interesting compositions, and using complementary colors effectively. You'll learn to understand focal points, balance, unity, and how to crop and mat your own work. There will be plenty of individual assistance and time for completion of morning studies and afternoon paintings.
The workshop will focus on design principles using different subjects: object studies (seashells), flowers, landscape (skies and water), and architecture (including perspective concepts). It's also about developing your own style through exploration, studies, and finishing small works using traditional techniques of watercolor painting. Morning studies will be matted size 8" x 10", and afternoon studies will be matted sizes 11" x 14" or 16" x 20"). This art class is especially good for beginners who have very basic watercolor knowledge, and up.
This workshop will be held at Cheap Joe's Art Stuff in Boone NC. Class hours will be Monday-Thursday from 9 am-4:30 pm, and Friday from 9 am-12 noon. Monday-Thursday includes a 1-1/2 hour lunch break on your own. Food, lodging, travel expenses, and supplies are not included in the workshop tuition.
